Amsterdam Guest House - The Windketel House

The 'Windketel' House

On the very edge of the historic center of Amsterdam is located this most intimate luxury guest house. The 'Windketel' is a free standing octagonal mini-tower with three rooms (kitchen, bedroom & bath and living room).
This unique architectural monument has a beautiful, state-of-art interior, offering up to two guests five star comfort. The building itself is a small marvel dated from 1897 and its location makes it an unforgettable experience for guests: it stands at the heart of a brick paved square, completely sheltered from traffic in an automobile free zone in Amsterdam's greenest neighborhood, the 'Eco-wijk'.

The 'Windketel' House is available for short renting (minimum of 3 nights) or even on a month basis.

The Accommodation

The entrance leads to a luxurious kitchen with floor heating, perfectly equipped for all kinds of cooking, including a microwave, four gas burners, coffee machine and dishwasher. There you will find also a wash machine combined with a drier.
One floor higher is the living room, with couch, writing desk, TV, CD, DVD player with sound surround system, Internet connection and high windows on four sides.

The Windketel is an initiative of local residents. There are no other guest rooms in the area, so you'll share life on the square with the local residents, way off the beaten tourist track. You'll be amazed by your surroundings, which are a far cry from the hustle and bustle of most other centrally located hotels.

Location

The Windketel is part of a unique complex designed to be a 'village within the city' on the grounds of the prestigious former Public Water Company built in 1900. Gardens, winding footpaths and footbridges connect new dwellings and the impressive industrial monuments of the old water works. This quiet enclave is only twenty minutes by foot from Central Station. In addition, it is the end of tram line 10, which takes you straight to Amsterdam's four biggest museums and most important shopping and entertainment districts. And the shops, restaurants, open-air markets, cafes and parks of the famous 'Jordaan' district (built in 1612) are only 10 minutes away by foot. On the neighbourhood are diverse choices of shops, cafés, restaurants, the recent renovated cultural park of the former 'Westergasfabriek' and the famous Café Restaurant Amsterdam is only 30m distance from your house.
For those who come with a car, there is the parking garage 'Westersluis' very close by.
